In this workshop, the participants will learn the basic properties of the geometric shapes described by the term “conic sections”, that is the circle, the ellipse, the parabola and the hyperbola. More specifically, an explanation will be offered about the use of the term “conic sections” to describe the group of curves mentioned above.
Then, an experimental setup of a light cone will be presented, which consists of a motor, mirrors and laser point, that will illustrate the above geometric shapes on the appropriate surface.Following simple instructions and using the basic characteristics of the conic sections, the participants will design a setup of geometric solids on a three-dimensional scale in order to print the conic sections that will derive on the 3D printers of V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF).
