Summertime, the village, carefree mood, fresh air and play in the square under the plane tree! The last month of the summer is here, summer holidays are beginning or continuing, while several events in Vamvakou, Lakonia are keeping you company. Join us to experience the most carefree, relaxing moments in the village with lots of music, dance, walks in nature, creative activities, technology and creative workshops for everyone, realized by Vamvakou Revival, within the framework of the initiative for the Revival of Vamvakou, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Cultural events with a summer flair
August is kicking in and the music is getting louder on the rooftop of café-restaurant Voureiko, as the sun is setting on the horizon, luring us into an atmospheric sunset DJ set (03/08) with Nikos Giannakos on the decks. Then, the nightlife moves to the village square under the plane tree, where dancing with heart and soul (10/08) will take place, with favourite songs from the folk and traditional repertoire performed live by the musicians Ilias Doskoris, Kostas Mitsios, Lina Alatzidou, Antonis Gerogiannis, Nikos Karaolanis, Giorgos Zografos. Christina Angelopoulou and Strigles theatre group are making the soup of love (17/08) in an interactive puppet theatre show about sharing and the value of giving.
Creative moments for children and grown-ups
This month, we are embroidering our old clothes (04/08) to renew them in the spirit of upcycling and fashion ethics. Then, virtual reality and gaming take the lead with an Open Day (10/08) at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). On the day of the Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games of 2024 in Paris, the games are traveling to Vamvakou (11/08) through the museum kit of the Educational and Social Program “Agon, an Olympic Legacy” by the Athens Olympic Museum, developed with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The series of multisensory play with clay as the main theme, clay play stories (24/08), is successfully continuing with… clay chats, play and free expression. Summer is coming to an end with a different school… with a musical notation (25/08) on a pleasant and creative Sunday, accompanied by the music selections of DJ Nikos Giannakos. And, of course, the program would not be complete without the rejuvenating excursions in nature and more specifically an organized trekking excursion along the trail of Agia Kyriaki (18/08), the well-hidden cave monastery in the woods.
