Bouzouki, the offspring of art | Grigoris Vasilas

Bouzouki, the offspring of art | Grigoris Vasilas

Vamvakou square

A performance with bouzouki in the leading role, ever since its birth till the times of rebetiko, throughout the decades up until its evolution, as well as about its adoption by great Greek contemporary composers. A marvel of instruments, which was marginalised, pursued, glowed and survived as the only purely Greek instrument. In fact, it was recognised by UNESCO as part of the intangible cultural heritage of Greece.

During the event, songs and orchestra pieces that are characteristic of the sound of the instrument will be presented. Covering pieces by Markos Vamvakaris and Vasilis Tsitsanis to pieces by Stavros Xarchakos and Manos Hadjidakis and others, the performance serves like a short, yet substantial retrospect of the most important decades of Greek folk music. The bouzouki master and music composer Grigoris Vasilas is the programme and orchestration editor.
