Turn off the light | Theatre play

School

Maximus is afraid of his own shadow but doesn’t even dare to admit it. When night falls, his imagination runs wild, and everything seems like a real monster! That’s why the lights are always on. Until one day, when a persistent sound leads him into a world where he is called upon to confront all his fears by talking to them! What happens when he realizes that the only strong one in this world is himself, and everyone else needs his help? And what will he do when in this fantastically bizarre world, even spectators themselves, young and old, beg him to… turn off the light?

Original text by Angelos Angelou and Emi Sini under the scientific guidance of family psychotherapist Dimitra Michalopoulou.

The imaginative comedy “Turn off the light” is one of the audience’s favorite performances held by theater company KOPERNIKOS, first presented in 2017 at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall. It is a play that encourages us to courageously approach (and to get to know) all that we find frightening, to reject the fears stemming from ignorance and prejudices, and to accept other ones without guilt. And maybe then, when the light goes out, it won’t all be that terrible!
