Theatrical play | Theophilos

School

This is a theatrical play that follows the steps of the painter Theophilos, starting from his adolescence and his first trip from Lesvos to Izmir, to find his way by pursuing the dream for the “drawing”, all the way to Volos and Pelion fighting for his country and visions. The unfulfilled love for Athina, the rejection, the mockery and the poverty formed his everyday life.

The return to his birthplace and the liberating encounter with Stratis Eleftheriadis would bring the first recognition. However, the real justice would come through his works as such. Images and illustrations of the Greek Revolution and the various events come to life before spectators – who have the chance to communicate, through these works, with the great artist and other personalities such as Athanasios Diakos, Rigas Feraios, Pavlos Melas – and are taking on a new perspective on his canvas. “History is like the wind; to feel it, you need to breathe it in”.
