For the fourth consecutive year, Vamvakou Revival invites children from 6-12 years old to participate in the Vamvakou Summer Camp scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 4, 2024, in the village of Vamvakou, Lakonia as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative implemented with exclusive support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Addressed to 100 elementary school children residing in Sparta and the wider area of Mount Parnon and Lakonia, this year’s summer camp will run for ten days (including a weekend). During a four-hour daily program, children will enjoy popular sports, dance, motor skills activities, group games and orientation games moving ahead to educational programs that perfectly link entertainment with practical knowledge such as first aid training, organized in collaboration with the Greek Red Cross, and fire safety instructions by the Sparta Fire Department. Students will participate in arts activities and hands-on educational programs as well as fun STEAM activities at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF) including astrophysics, space missions, water rockets, parachutes, sun observation, exploration of the solar system, zip line and roller coaster construction. They will also have the opportunity to explore the museum kit titled “Olympic Games travel”, part of the educational and social action program of the Athens Olympic Museum “Agon, an Olympic Legacy” that has been developed thanks to an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, and to attend the program “From Earth to the sky: learn, think, live…”, part of the Summer Reading and Creativity Challenge 2024 organized by the National Library of Greece (NLG). Resonating with today’s social trends and needs, we plan to hold an interactive talk on school bullying given by the Lakonia Police Directorate, as well as a hands-on workshop and a short film screening co-organized with the Athens International Children’s Film Festival.
The summer camp will conclude on July 4, 2024, with a big celebration in the schoolyard. Young and old will have great fun and dance their hearts out in an interactive family celebration with the subversive music band The Burger Project, which will mark the beginning of the Vamvakou Experience Festival 2024.
Children will be transported to and from Vamvakou with specially scheduled bus routes to and from Sparta.
Sports instructors have been trained in collaboration with the civil non-profit organization Regeneration & Progress and the Sports Excellence Center, under the scientific supervision of the 1st Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
