April with the scent of Easter lilac in Vamvakou

New partnerships, theatre, family programs and wellness in nature

The cherry and sour cherry trees have blossomed, and unique wildflowers have coloured the landscape of Mount Parnon. Nature and the mountain invite you to new discoveries, and Easter is just a stone’s throw away. This April arrives with new partnerships and programs, theatre, relaxation in nature and a wide range of activities for adults and children – all part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, implemented with an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

A theatrical event by ETHOL
Culture is one of our main pillars of activities, and this month, in collaboration with the Amateur Theatre Group of Lakonia (ETHOL), a unique performance based on the play “Common Tale” by Elli Papadimitriou, is presented for the first time in Vamvakou (12 Apr). Testimonies and narratives rooted in turbulent historical periods of the 20th century in Greece come to life through the immortal art of the spoken word, in a performance directed by Dimitris Agoras at the school of Vamvakou.

Activities for young and old alike throughout April
Have you ever wondered how great the impact of the voice’s utterance, tone and timbre is in shaping the mentality of a child? On 6 April, parents and teachers will take the opportunity to explore voice, the most significant communication tool, and its effects on children, through a special seminar led by music educator Maro Theodoraki.

A new partnership is launched with the Goulandris Natural History Museum, organizing two new environmental programs for children, tailored to the landscape of Vamvakou and its natural surroundings. Young trackers join us for an excursion in the forest with their parents, learning to distinguish nature’s signs (12 Apr) and to answer every spring-related question by discovering what happens on Earth in spring and during Easter time (13 Apr).

The program is completed with origami crafts (05 Apr), Einstein’s theories revealed through the programmes of the National Library of Greece (26 Apr), and the butterfly life cycle (27 Apr). Organized spring walks in nature with hikes of all levels (05 & 19 Apr), mountain biking (12 & 26 Apr) led by experienced mountain guides, and relaxing massage experiences at the Traditional Guesthouse (05, 12 & 26 Apr) continue in April, too.

Easter in Vamvakou (17-21 April)
Easter is to be spent in the village, as the wise people says, and Vamvakou is an ideal destination! The solemn atmosphere, tradition, the smells of the village, lilacs in bloom, and creative activities with Easter flavour for families will make this year’s Easter unforgettable! Crafts, colored eggs, tours in nature, gastronomic quests, performances, a traditional feast in the village square with musical accompaniment by the municipal orchestra, and authentic delicacies from the Voureiko restaurant-café will keep you company from Holy Thursday up to Easter Monday.

Inauguration of “Vamvakia” in Sparta!
What would Vamvakou taste like if it were sweet? What does trahanas made in Vamvakou look like? Have you ever tasted spoon sweet olive? We are looking forward to welcoming you to “Vamvakia”, the Women’s Cooperative of Vamvakou, to taste traditional local recipes made with love and care, on Wednesday 9 April at 19:00, at 33 Archidamou & Dorion in Sparta, at the opening of the production and retail store.
