Spring and Easter activities for the whole family on the mountain
Spring is now here and it’s once more time to celebrate Easter in the village! This time of the year, nature is in full bloom and the mountain is flooded with colours, inviting you to unique excursions. Original Easter and spring activities revolving around nature, customs, culture and technology are waiting for you in Vamvakou, Lakonia on Mount Parnon by Vamvakou Revival, within the framework of the initiative for the revival of the village with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
In springtime, nature is being reborn and is one of the protagonists of the month! So, “Nature is waking up” in the beginning of April (02/04) with a journey for all the senses in the colourful and aromatic world of flowers guided by “Parea tou Dasous” and assisted by the insects. In Vamvakou, we are “Making spring with clay” (02/04) in a special ceramic art workshop with Maria Penesi. The “Organization Earth” comes to the school of Vamvakou and, through an educational programme (03/04), explains to children how to relate seeds to their nutrition, by exploring the value of unprocessed natural products, seasonality and the sustainable cultivation of food.
On Saturday 09/04 and Sunday 10/04, we are inviting the little tech fans to V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF) to wander in the world of STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) during a workshop of robotics with Lego WeDo and a 3D design and printing programme, along with the Robot-fun team of Nokia Hellas.
Are you an acrobat or a dreamer? On Saturday 16/04 in Vamvakou, we are asking children to close their eyes and, armed with theatre play, movement and improvisation and guided by Flora Kalomiri, cross the imagination barrier and come up with the craziest of dreams. The following day, we are waiting for the children in a different… Cultural School (17/04). The Association of Greek Cultural Tradition of Chalkis “To Alonaki” gets to Vamvakou with a unique three-hour programme of educational activities.
Easter in the village
Christmas in the city and Easter in the village, people say; so, let’s spend this Easter together in Vamvakou! How? Join us on Holy Saturday to make jolly Easter candles with Potoula Lafogianni. Οn Easter Sunday, come along to enjoy a traditional Easter feastwith roasted lamb on the spit in the square, along with unique tastes by Voureiko café-restaurant and live folk music by the orchestra of Thodoris Mermigas and Christiana Galiatsou. A fairy tale of Vamvakou, “The boy and the ghost”, comes to life on Easter Mondaythrough an interactive performance of storytelling with music and song for the whole family by Paramythokores. The month comes to a close (30/04) with the calendar of arts and Adamantia Mastrokyriakaki, looking for the Holy Light of the Resurrection and revealing to children the sufferings of Jesus through the paintings of El Greco.
