An informative presentation/consultation, with a particularly useful outcome, took place on Friday June, 19 of 2020 at Vamvakou, Lakonia regarding the spatial planning & development strategy of the village. The specific discussion was realized within the framework of the project that the National Technical University of Athens and the team of the Urban Planning Research Lab of the institution have undertaken to support the spatial planning of the Vamvakou Revival project, realized by the Vamvakou Revival organization, with the guidance and financial support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Inhabitants of the wider area, local business owners, production associations, bodies, unions and representatives of the public administration had the chance to meet at the village school, either in person or via teleconference, following the invitation by Vamvakou Revival.
The meeting opened with a short presentation outlining the important points and milestones of the Revival project, as well as of the project that the National Technical University of Athens has undertaken. An open discussion followed, keeping a record of the viewpoints expressed by all parties involved. The main purpose of the meeting was the assessment of the alternative scenarios suggested up to now regarding the spatial and developmental interventions in the wider area.
The meeting was concluded with the preliminary conclusions, which are expected to be assessed and incorporated to the deliverables by the National Technical University of Athens to Vamvakou Revival, which is coordinating the project.
We would like to thank all the participants who responded to our invitation and we hope that we will all together continue to collaborate smoothly in order to breathe new life into Vamvakou, as well as into the rest of the villages of Mount Parnon.
