Fresh activities and mountain running on Mount Parnon, for a good cause
June, the month of harvesting, cherries, threshing; the month with a thousand faces has arrived in Vamvakou, Lakonia. The weather is getting better, summertime is here, our mood is changing and all routes lead closer to nature for various educational and experiential workshops, while we are preparing for a great mountain run – Vamvakou Mountain Run 2023 – and our little friends are preparing their bags for unique experiences during Vamvakou Summer Camp 2023. All the activities are realised by Vamvakou Revival, within the framework for the revival of Vamvakou, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foun-dation (SNF).
Welcoming summertime with educational workshops for children & families
The first month of summer brings to the village of Vamvakou the group Parea tou Dasous that will reveal the secrets of insects and of the “invisible” inhabitants of the mountain during the first weekend of June (03 & 04/06). On the second weekend, we will find out, through theatre play (10/06), the animal that we are hiding in us along with the actress Flora Kalomiri and cultivate our own vegetable garden (11/06) with Organization EARTH. The following week, we will mix up the heroes of well-known fairy tales to make our own Story Soups (17/06) together with Irini Gozadinou and welcome the first summer “School… the other way” (18/06). June this year finishes (24/06) with the festive song of the harvester, this way reviv-ing the local traditions along with Adamantia Mastrokiriakaki.
Vamvakou Mountain Run 2023
June rushes in and, in Vamvakou, we are preparing for the great mountain run Vamvakou Mountain Run that will take place on Sunday June, 11 of 2023.
Join us to cross gorges, forest roads and trails by following two routes of 7 and 28 kilometers respectively, starting from and finishing in Vamvakou. Like in previous years, this year too, we will be running for a good cause as the total amount accumulated by the symbolic participation of 5 Euros will be offered to cover part of the expenses of the trip of the “Northside” robotics team of the 3rd General Vocational Senior High School of Sparti that will represent Greece in an international competition in Australia. Applications accepted until June, 4 of 2023.
Vamvakou Summer Camp 2023
Vamvakou Revival is organising this year too Vamvakou Summer Camp, from 26/06 to 14/07, in Vamvakou, Lakonia! Three weeks, 100 primary school children from Sparti and the wider area, a daily four-hour programme, numerous activities in nature inspired by Vamvakou. The programme this year includes group sports activities, dance and activities promoting motor skills, as well as orientation games. At the same time, numerous visual art and other art activities will be realised, as well as educational programmes designed especially for Vamvakou. The students will have the chance to participate in original and fun STEAM activities at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF) and programmes approved by the Ministry of Education – F1 in Schools, 4×4 in Schools and Robodrones Challenge by Dimitris Polimatidis.
