The last month of spring has arrived in Vamvakou, bringing along activities for all
May has arrived! Come on, kids, let’s welcome it in the countryside! So, shall we roam the mountains together that are now in full bloom? Vamvakou is inviting you to participate in activities for children and grown-ups under the theme of art, dance, theatre, play, the earth, experiments and technology, which form part of the initiative for the Revival of Vamvakou realized with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
By “laughing to tears” (01/05) and with old-time-classic summer camp activities, we will welcome May in Vamvakou, through a diverse fun programme by Evangelos Theodorou that includes games such as musical chairs, tag in nature and more. Along with Christina Angelopoulou and “Strigles”, we will be making dolls with yarn, cloth, ribbon; join us at the school of Vamvakou on Saturday 07/05 to discover another form of art. The following day (08/05), children aged 5 to 10 are transformed into little farmers and, guided by “Organization Earth”, play by cultivating the earth, get familiar with the everyday tasks of cultivation, conduct experiments with soil and water, make structures with natural materials and take part in traditional action games.
The successful ballet workshop from the Educational & Social Activities of the Greek National Opera, which was received with great enthusiasm by kids and… dads, travels to Vamvakou on 14 & 15/05. Dad… shall we dance? during an activity full of movement, improvisation and play under the piano scores of Anastasios Hamilakis. The workshop is realised by Tasos Karahalios and Emmy Korfia.
Have you been to a fun fair? Have you seen a Ferris wheel? Yes, that giant wheel offering a view of everything from high up. So, what would you say if, on 14/05, you could become little engineers for a while and learn how to make a miniature wheel during a STEAM lab for children at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF), in collaboration with the STEM Academy of CGS (Costeas-Geitonas Schools)? And the third weekend of May is completed on 15/05 with Milk Experiments, a chemistry workshop by Elena Paloumba at V.Lab.
Next follow the calendar of arts (21/05) to make May flower wreaths and flower and leaf prints by observing paintings, murals and embroideries along with Adamantia Mastrokyriakaki, and, an exciting knowledge & target game for children and grown-ups (22/05) by Evangelos Theodorou.
We will say goodbye to spring and May (28/05) with theatre play and “dreamy superheroes with empathy” in a workshop where we will be making our own figure – puppet and talking about our favourite superheroes and their powers along with Flora Kalomiri; while, the following day (29/05) a school without desks for all comes to Vamvakou. Get equipped with good mood and imagination and join us to play, express, create and have a carefree time on the mountain!
