According to a popular saying, March is the first sign of summer. So, as the first month of spring is kicking in, nature is waking up again and is calling for new excursions and explorations. March in Vamvakou is combining music, theatre, art and educational workshops, STEAM activities and Visual Reality, kites, maypoles, masks, bubbles, colours and confetti, messy and clay play, all realised within the framework of the initiative for the revival of Vamvakou by Vamvakou Revival, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Carnival & Clean Monday in Vamvakou
The pre-Lenten season is beginning in a few days and the Carnival is around the corner! The most fun and colourful period of the year is approaching and, in Vamvakou, we have set up unique experiences and special activities to celebrate the Carnival all together. Creative disguises and mask creation (09/03), hot-air balloon construction (10/03), kites and maypole with threads and colourful ribbons (16/03) and a music evening at Voureiko café-restaurant dedicated to rebetiko songs (16/03) will take us all the way to Carnival Sunday. The theatre play for children «Αίσωπος φτου και βγαίνω!» [“Aesopus; ready or not, here I come!”] – an alternative approach to the fables of Aesopus, written and directed by Dimitris Plionis, full of twists, games, interaction, theatre mask use and music – will be staged at the school of Vamvakou on Carnival Sunday (17/03). On Clean Monday (18/03), we are inviting you to celebrate Koulouma in Vamvakou with face painting, carnival creations and balloon constructions, an interactive bubble show, kite flying, Latin music tunes and Lent delicacies at the school of the village!
Greek Independence Day holiday in the village
This year has several opportunities for short three-day excursions and one of those is the third weekend of March. Before the parade and the celebration of the National Day of March, 25, we are inviting you to Vamvakou to learn about water, its attributes and forms, make our own watermills (23/03), play and design three-dimensional designs of our own (24/03) at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). A music special dedicated to Stavros Kouyioumtzis and Manos Loizos will mesmerize us on Saturday 23/03 at Voureiko café-restaurant.
Technology, education, clay & play for children and families
The first weekend of March, Vamvakou Revival is waiting for you to join a magic, fascinating Virtual Reality experience (02/03) on Mount Parnon! Make the most of your senses of sight, sound and touch and enjoy a realistic experience in a three-dimensional framework. On Sunday 03/03, the Olympic Games will travel to Vamvakou and bring the experiential workshop “The Olympic Games are travelling”, through the programme of the Athens Olympic Museum Suitcase, which is part of the Educational and Social Programme of the Museum “Agon, an Olympic Legacy”, realised with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Our contact with nature, as well as the connection with ourselves are the main objectives of the programme “Clay Play Stories” (30/03), while freedom and creativity are nicely combined in the “Different…School” (31/03). We will talk about our favourite heroes and their stories and we will give them shape with clay, while we will play and have fun to the maximum at the school of Vamvakou by choosing among various activities and games.
