Customs and history, walnut picnic, music and endless play for everyone
Even if autumn has arrived and the rains have started, this year too in Vamvakou, we will make the most of October! Sweet autumn is here, and, we are inviting you to enjoy it together in the village with lots of play, music, messy play, educational programmes, experiential and gastronomic workshops, all realised within the framework for the Revival of Vamvakou with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Experiential workshops with a scent of history and carefree moments of play
This month, we will go after the hidden “treasures” of the communal life of Vamvakou through Vamvakou flows (07/10) during a tour that connects history, the weaving tradition and the present, by following a flow of games and surprises. Once upon a time… the epic of 1940 comes to life in the village (21/10), drawing inspiration from the blue of the sky and the colours of Alekos Fassianos in order to make our own blue & white flag and learn about its symbolisms. And even if autumn has arrived, we relive our best summer camp dreams in groups, as play returns to the place… of play (22/10). With the best of moods, full of imagination and joy, we say goodbye to October and pass the baton on to the next month, by playing in a school different to the others (29/10).
Gastronomic and music quests
The walnut month has arrived on Mount Parnon, and, we are welcoming it in Vamvakou with a Picnic under the walnut trees (14/10), where we will attend and actively participate in the process of harvesting and cook with walnuts in the countryside. The evening of October, 28, the music band “Grammes” will take us to past times of Greek folk and art music, during a music event at Voureiko café-restaurant combining fun, gastronomy and nostalgia.
Fun autumn days at the school or trails of Vamvakou
Is there something better than a hike or bike ride in nature during this season when the colours are chang-ing? Follow some of the well-signaled trails of Vamvakou, making up a network of two hiking routes and three cycling routes around the village, and let the scents and images of the autumn forest overwhelm you. And if you get tired, every weekend at the school of Vamvakou, you will find balls of all types, ping pong, crafts, rare books as well as endless virtual tours via Oculus Quest by V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF).
