A few questions we often hear about the Vamvakou Revival project and the return of permanent residents, are whether children live in the village and in the surrounding communities, if there is a school, and of course if it operates daily.
The school of Vamvakou, which operated until 2008 as a primary education school, had and still has significant and substantial value for our project from day one, since its operation symbolizes the Revival and sets a milestone in our vision. Moreover, it is a big chapter in the history of the village, if one considers the great course of numerous young people who studied there and evolved over the years into benefactors of this school unit, but also of the region in general.
In 2019, as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative implemented by Vamvakou Revival with the full support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the school reopened its doors welcoming children as a multipurpose activity space, hosting numerous programs and events every weekend throughout the year, but also operating as a model STEAM center, V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF).
Taking a step further and seeking out ways to listen to the needs of both children and their working parents, Vamvakou Revival took all the necessary actions and as of Monday, November 4th 2024, after sixteen years, the school of Vamvakou operates daily once again, during the morning hours, welcoming children up to 4 years of age from Vamvakou and Karyes, as a place of creative play. The school’s bell rang again, and its first young “students” fill the space with cheerful voices, laughter, games, but also optimism for the future! Through numerous educational and recreational activities, contact with nature and lots of playtime, children make creative use of their time, socialize and share experiences that they will remember for a lifetime.
