September in Vamvakou, Lakonia

Wellness, STEAM, theatre, creative activities, and multisensory play

Leaving summer behind, we move towards autumn in the mountains, and the new season in Vamvakou, Lakonia begins. Vamvakou Revival proposes activities for young and old alike: hiking, wellness sessions, science workshops, and creative activities realized as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative thanks to an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Mountain, nature, and wellness

We welcome the new month with hiking to Loggous (Sept 1) and the cave monastery of Agia Kyriaki (Sept 7) guided by the outdoor activities team “Our vibe is mountains”, a group of young people who have moved from the city to chase their dreams in the mountains through hiking. Keeping contact with nature and the environment is equivalent to contact with rich sensory stimuli and our inner selves. You are thus invited to discover sound and its magical qualities (Sept 7) in an experiential sound therapy workshop led by therapist Nikos Nikolakopoulos, while at the same time, children are invited to connect with their bodies and to get introduced to the core principles of yoga in an original kids’ yoga session (Sept 8) led by Konstantina Kritikou, kids’ yoga instructor.

STEAM programs in V.Lab

The new school year in V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF) begins with running waters in Kato Vrysi and discovering the secrets of hydromechanics, watermills, and gutters (Sept 14) led by physicist Dora Kourkouli, while the exciting world of robotics and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) unfolds in a design engineering and programming workshop for children (Sept 15) led by Dimitris Sagiannis, Director at the Sparta Central Public Library. Every weekend, gaming and virtual reality via the Oculus Quest 2 headset accompany those who don’t give up technology even when in the mountains.

Events & creative activities for families

Copernicus group will put in a unique, fun musical and theatrical performance titled “Doremiredes” (Sept 21) bound to lure us into wild singing and dancing in a theatrical delirium not to be missed! Arts, creativity, and entertainment mingle in the village of Mount Parnon, as we will be weaving Autumn (Sept 21) using wool, cardboard, and autumn leaves along with Georgia Ganiouri, and making scented candles (Sept 22) with soy wax, learning about the benefits and advantages of organic candles by Yiouli Kanavarou. The multisensory and theatrical play series Clay Play Stories (Sept 28) invites young participants to make up their own stories and shape them with natural clay. The long-standing program School…the other way round that encourages endless play, creativity, imagination, freedom, and carefreeness will keep us company on the last Sunday of the month (Sept 29).
