Mountain, nature, tranquility, technology, music and endless activities for all
A few kilometres away from Tripoli and Sparti and only two hours away from Athens, lies the village of Vamvakou, perched on the slopes of Mount Parnon among fir trees. A village that is being revived over the past five years with activities in the fields of tourism, culture, innovation, agrifood and entrepreneurship. A place that is inviting you every month, throughout the year, to get to know it through events, workshops and activities for all, organised by the team of Vamvakou Revival, within the framework of the initiative for the revival of Vamvakou, realised with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
A new collaboration is coming this autumn to Vamvakou, on November, 25 & 26! Vamvakou Revival and the group Kinitiras Ω (Omega) are inviting the mature adult inhabitants of Vamvakou and the wider area, as well as the visitors of the village to take part in a unique, different movement and singing workshop for individuals aged over 65 years old, coordinated by Antigoni Gira and Aliki Avdelopoulou.
This November, we will follow, along with the children, the winter trip of the inhabitants of the mountain, discover the golden olive, by coming up with our own story about olive oil and participate in the most exciting knowledge and speed game (04 & 05/11). V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF), the STEAM centre that has been operating in the village over the past four years, will be welcoming the aspiring programmers and little engineers during a weekend (11 & 12/11) dedicated to robotics and 3D design and printing. Moreover, we will explore the magic world of trees and unfold the mystery of their feelings through improvisation, theatre play and our contact with nature, while we will all turn to children, unreserved and carefree, in a school different to the rest (18 & 19/11).
And if you are wondering what’s more to do, there is a lot for you in Vamvakou! The Greek discography is being revealed through popular, rebetiko and art tunes during two music evenings (11 & 18/11) at Voureiko café-restaurant by Grammes music band. Is there anything better than a hiking or cycling route in nature to escape everyday pressure? The well-signaled trails of Vamvakou are making up a network of two hiking and three cycling routes around the village, while HAIBIKE electric bicycles are waiting for you for endless tours in the lush forest. At the school of Vamvakou, you can find ultrafast internet and comfortable spaces to work remotely, balls of all kinds and a basketball court, ping pong, handicrafts, rare books, as well as endless virtual tours via Oculus Quest by V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). The Greek authentic hospitality in the guesthouse Ruga of Vamvakou and the Traditional Guesthouse of Vamvakou will complement your unique experience in the village. And don’t forget to taste the marvelous products (graviera cheese, walnuts, honey, olive oil, olives) produced by Parnon Poèma, the Agricultural Cooperative of Vamvakou.
